The five BIG Lies

1. Gaining muscle and burning fat at the same time. You cannot do this. You have to choose a goal and go with it. When you get to where you want to be, then you can start "cutting" or reverse your goal to lose fat, instead of gain muscle.

2. Sauna suits, or "trimming belts". You may see them advertised even some people in the gym may use them. All they are doing is making your body temperature rise and cause you to sweat more. So, in the end it's really dehydrating you. This can be very dangerous. And no it does not burn any extra fat whatsoever. It's a scam.

3. The expression, "turning muscle into fat" or "fat into muscle". This is impossible because fat and muscle are two different tissues in your body. Fat cells cannot morph into muscle cells and vice versa. So, that should help clear up the confusion regarding picking a goal - you either build muscle or burn fat.

4. Spot reduction - you may see people targeting certain areas of their body to try to get it "smaller". For example, doing lots of sit-ups in hopes that it will make your stomach smaller. Nope, the only thing that will remove fat is a good diet combined with resistance training and cardio.

5. Working your muscles for hours or several times a week to get them to grow. Your muscles do not grow when you are in the gym working them. They grow when you are sleeping at night and at rest. Furthermore, doing long extensive workouts may be working against you. Your best bet is a solid routine like I suggest and working your muscle groups only once per week. Doing chest or other muscle groups 3-4 times a week is really detrimental to your training.
